Computers Categorized by Purpose – Know Before you Buy



There are two main types of computers regarding to their purpose.

1.       General-Purpose Computers

Computers using these days are called General-Purpose computers these computers are built for a great selection of processing jobs. Just by using a general purpose computer and different software’s, many tasks can be done, including writing and editing also, manipulating information in a database, tracking manufacturing list, making technical calculations, or even scheming organization’s security system, electricity use, and building warmth. General purpose computers are made to perform a huge variety of functions and operations. A general purpose computer is capable to perform a broad variety of operations because it can stock and perform different programs in its inner storage. Unluckily, having this capability is often achieved at the expenditure of speed and effectiveness.

2.       Special-Purpose Computers

As the name says, a Special-Purpose Computer is designed to task specific and most of the times their job is to answer one particular problem. They are also known as devoted computers, because they are dedicated to perform a single task again and again. Such computer systems would be useful in playing graphic Video Games; traffic lights manage system, navigational structure in an aircraft, weather forecasting, satellite start / tracking, oil study, and in automotive industries, keeping time in a digital watch.A special purpose computer may have lots of same features found in a general purpose computer; its applicability to a meticulous problem is a function of its plan rather than to a stored program. The commands that control it are built straight into the computer, which makes for a more competent and effective operation. As these computers have to execute only one task, therefore, they are rapid in processing. Drawback of these computers however, is the computer’s need. It cannot be used to do other operations.
